‘Flake’ is one of two new singles from Toledo. It’s a wash of folky guitar texture with sunny, effortlessly catchy lead vocals delivering syllabically-dense melody lines. Its drifting indie-rock sound is at once familiar and different. “It’s one step forward, two steps back,” say Toledo of the track, which is about deadbeat dads. “Sometimes when you feel like you’re heading in the right direction, you slip up and fall back into old habits. You only have yourself to blame, but aren’t your parents to blame for how you end up? It’s really a fuck you to myself and my dad.
